Regents standards and
charter schools. Building needs and reading scores. Title I and
teachers salaries.
Not to mention the state
budget.
In New York State, the
educational is indeed political. Small wonder, then, that state
and local educators view a dynamic presence in the state capital
as a necessity. Yet they generally have neither the time nor the
specialized talent to maintain that presence effectively.
Many of them turn to
Carr Public Affairsnot simply for experience in lobbying,
but for an in-depth grasp of education in New York State. Since
our founding in 1993, we have helped education advocacy groups and
institutions successfully advance their agendas. Among these successes:
- For 4201
schools those serving deaf, blind, and disabled studentswe
educated legislators on the schools mission, then used their
new awareness to win increased state funding.
- For the New York
Association of Pupil Transportation, we worked to enact over 40
new laws to safeguard children who ride school buses in New York.
- For the Association
of American Publishers, we have helped to increase state aid for
schoolbooks and educational technology.
- We have supported
Literacy Volunteers of America/New York State Chapter in its quest
to increase support for adult literacy services.
- We have reinvigorated
the public affairs agenda of the New York State Federation of
School Administrators, a key labor organization for school principals
in New York City, Yonkers, and Buffalo.
In each case, our clients
came away with favorable, workable solutionsthe better to
pursue their unique mission in the education of New York States
children.
