These are perilous
times in healthcare, to say the least.
Years of reductions
in Medicaid and Medicare payments, together with cost pressures
from managed care, have placed many organizations in cash-challenged
situations. Such issues as quality of care are receiving scrutiny
as never before. And the spiraling complexity of healthcare legislation
can outstrip the ability of even the most sophisticated organization
to stay current.
In that context, a professional
presence in government is a pressing need for healthcare entities:
to secure funding, facilitate reimbursement, influence regulations,
and stay abreast of an industry whose only constant is change.
Since our founding,
we have successfully advocated for healthcare providers and professionals,
tackling issues from reimbursement to the cost of copies for patient
records. Even before coming to Carr, our associates held distinguished
positions in healthcare advocacy. William Koester, for instance,
served as state government affairs director for a major healthcare
association, legislative liaison for the New York State Insurance
Department, and legislative representative with the New York State
Office for the Aging.
With such deep experience
and insight into New York State healthcare, Carr has advanced the
agendas of a broad range of organizations:
- We helped the United
New York Ambulance Network win increases in reimbursements for
emergency medical services.
- We spearheaded the
effort to increase state support for the Home Care Council of
New York City, so needy New Yorkers can receive health care services
in their homes.
- We have worked with
the Healthcare Distribution Management Association to keep prescription
drugs affordable and available in New York.
- We have led advocacy
efforts for the New York State Dietetic Association since 1995.
In each case, our client
has emerged from the process with a renewed ability to conduct its
business in the most effective way possible. And we emerge with
a renewed commitment to helping the healthcare industry move forward
toward a better future in New York State. It is a commitment characteristic
of our passion for vigilance.
